Why AAC Blocks are Light weight?
Shelter is one of the very basic human needs. Humans for ages have been building shelter to protect themselves and it has evolved from Stone Age caves to the fancy architecture that we see today. The one thing that we could clearly distinguish is that, up until the evolution of modern construction practices using concrete, most of our buildings roof rested directly on our walls i.e., the walls carried the buildings and also protected us from the outside.
Today, 99% of our buildings are built with concrete footings, columns, beams and slabs. These concrete structures are essentially carrying our entire building and not the walls anymore. The walls have evolved from being a structural member to a non-structural member. This is one of the major breakthroughs in construction.
Since walls are no longer load bearing, their role is limited to providing a cover around the building and for creating partitions within the built environment.
One walling solution that has been developed to cater to this specific need are the AAC blocks. Being one third the weight of conventional bricks/blocks, AAC blocks reduces the dead load on the structure. Thus making our buildings structurally efficient and also earthquake resistant. Their light weight property helps in easy shifting of blocks and also eases construction process for the masons.
This lightweight property of the AAC blocks alone makes it a standalone option of high rise structures and apartments. And we LICON are at the forefront of this revolution, manufacturing and supplying Grade1 AAC blocks to South Indian markets.
